Photojournalists Honoured

October 26, 2011 in News / 0 Comments

VANCOUVER, March 14 /CNW/ – Great photographs speak more clearly than words, projecting emotion and evoking a true understanding with no need to translate language and culture. Photojournalists capture an instance in time – yet still manage to tell mankind’s most profound tales of heartbreak, joy and reality with one single image.

Today, the News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) is pleased to recognize the excellence represented in submissions by Canadians at this year’s event showcase and help its members strengthen their skills and keep them educated on current trends.

Over 1400 images and projects from across Canada were entered in this year’s competition, representing a spectacular body of work.

The NPOY photojournalism judging committee, made up of some of the most prominent and visionary photographers, editors and educators in visual journalism in North America, were tasked with judging the entries.

The still photo category judges are:

  • Nick Didlick – Photographer, Digital Imaging Consultant and Web Designer
  • John Harris – Associate Professor of Journalism/Western Washington University
  • Alain-Pierre Hovasse – National Photo Editor/Directeur Photo QMI
  • Erika Schultz – staff photographer Seattle Times

The winners will be announced during the NPAC’s National Pictures of the Year Gala event, which will take place at on May 28, 2011 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
